The GSF Internship Programme

Programme goals

The GSF created the Internship Programme to offer excellent young university Bachelor and Master graduates valuable first-hand experience to develop their professional skills within an international non-governmental organizational context, while implementing their academic background, ideas and expertise into practice.

 The programme aims to:  

  1. Provide young professionals with insights into the day-to-day working environment of a non-governmental organization.

  2. Provide young professionals the opportunity to grow their professional skills by contributing directly to the work of a growing global organisation.

  3. Provide an opportunity for The GSF to tap into the creativity and knowledge of young professionals to further organizational success.

Learning opportunities

The GSF is significantly increasing its programmatic footprint and operations and offers a unique opportunity for young professionals to directly contribute to a growing organization. Selected candidates will be part of the core team and will work on the development of projects, management of projects, operational processes, as well as organizational growth.

  1. Analyse business development and organizational growth aspects in the context of a newly established and growing Swiss international global health foundation.

  2. Obtain first-hand experience in project development and project management.

  3. Outline effective communication methods with all audiences, including senior leaders, in a structured and appropriate manner.

  4. Understand the key principles underlying global surgery and the role of global surgery in public health.

  5. Peruse passions and develop your strengths and interpersonal skills to enhance employability skills.

Eligibility criteria

  • Completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a specialty relevant to the work of The GSF (including, but not limited to, international relations, global health, medicine, business development).

  • Eligibility to work and live in Switzerland.

  • Strong motivation for improving access to surgical care and interest in global surgery.

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is desirable.

Conditions of the programme

  • Successful candidates will work with the GSF for 6 months.

  • Successful candidates will be listed on the team page on the GSF website.

  • Successful candidates will be provided with a working space located at the GSF premises for the duration of their internship.

  • Successful candidates will be responsible for their own lodging, living expenses and health insurance as required by Swiss law.

  • Successful candidates will receive a monthly renumeration and pension contribution.
