Champions in Global Surgery programme

Formerly the Academic Elective Rotation programme

We created the Champions in Global Surgery programme in 2022 to give young professionals first-hand experience of global surgery at an international non-governmental organisation, while drawing on their knowledge, ideas and expertise.

Internship programme

GSF's six-month internship gives recent bachelor's and master's graduates hands-on experience at an international foundation in Geneva. Interns join the core team and work on projects, operations and organisational growth.

    • Insight into how an international non-governmental organisation works day to day

    • Experience in project development and project management

    • Practice communicating with a range of audiences, including senior leaders

    • An understanding of global surgery and its place in public health

    • Room to pursue your interests and build skills that support your career

    • A completed bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field, such as international relations, global health, medicine or business development

    • Eligibility to live and work in Switzerland

    • Motivation to improve access to surgical care and an interest in global surgery

    • Fluency in English; other languages are an asset

    • Six months, with a workspace at GSF's office

    • Monthly remuneration and a pension contribution

    • Interns cover their own housing, living costs and health insurance, as required by Swiss law
