Daniela Filipescu is a cardiac anaesthesiologist, Professor of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and chief of the Cardiac Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department II at the Emergency Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Bucharest, Romania. She also holds a Master degree in Management of Health and Social Systems from the University of Bucharest.

Daniela Filipescu is currently the Secretary of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), member of the WFSA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, member of the Central European group on Patient Blood Managment, member of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) Task force on Intensive Care Medicine and Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Romanian Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (SRATI) National Congress.

Daniela Filipescu served as President of the ESAIC (2014-2015) and was awarded the ESAIC Honorary membership in 2017 and the FESAIC title in 2022, as a recognition of the significant contribution made to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine. She was also awarded the Honorary membership of the Israel Society of Anesthesiologists and Associate Professor title at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemițanu”, Chișinău, Republic of Moldova. Daniela Filipescu also served as ESAIC representative for the European Union (EU) Affairs (advocacy) and World Health Organisation (WHO) – Europe Region, WFSA Council member and Vice-chair of the Steering Committee of the European Sepsis Alliance.

Doctor Filipescu’s research main interests include haemostasis and transfusion, perioperative care of the cardiac patient, sepsis, workforce diversity and patient safety. She published more than 200 papers and book chapters, lectured in more than 200 national and international meetings,  contributed to various international research groups and co-authored the ESAIC guidelines on the “Management of severe perioperative bleeding” and the European guideline on the “Management of bleeding and coagulopathy following major trauma“.
