Dr. Kusum Thapa

Dr. Kusum Thapa  is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist from Nepal with over three decades of experience, who has devoted her life to improving the welfare of women and girls in some of the world’s most challenging areas for health. She is dedicated, tenacious, skilled, passionate,and committed to ending preventable maternal and newborn deaths. As Jhpiego’ s Senior Technical Advisor, her leadership and guidance in maternal, newborn & child health, family planning, and reproductive health, particularly Safe Surgery, has provided direct positiveimpact on programs spanning 40 low and middle-income countries.

Dr. Thapa is portfolio Lead of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) for USAID Momentum and Country Global Leadership (MCGL) program and Co-Chair of Capacity Building Sub Working Group of WHO’s MPDSR Technical Working Group. She is a member of the global steering committee on Postpartum Hemorrhage, and is a visiting guest speaker to the Oxford Global Surgery course run by the Oxford University Global Surgery Course and the Department for Continuing Education.

Dr. Thapa was the General Secretary, President of Nepal Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (NESOG) and is currently the Vice President of the South Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecologist (SAFOG).
