In Loving Memory of Dr. Dominique “Dom” Vervoort

We are mourning the loss of a visionary leader, steadfast supporter, and friend.

Dom’s Heart Left a Mark on This World

Dom's heart left a mark on this world far greater than his far-too-short time here would suggest.

The global surgery community has lost a visionary leader, a steadfast advocate, and a friend. Dr. Dominique "Dom" Vervoort was a central figure in the movement to provide equitable surgical care worldwide in so many ways.

Behind the scenes, as one of our first advisors, he played an important role in the early development of the Global Surgery Foundation. His trusted advice, his sharp insights - and most importantly his unwavering belief in our mission - were deeply valued by our team and shaped our organisation from the beginning.

His Spirit is Woven Into the DNA of the GSF

In 2023, Dom ran 77 km accross Geneva in support of children with congenital heart disease.

Our team will always remember Dom for his boundless energy and the sheer speed with which he moved through the world. Whether he was turning out papers and articles in record time, tirelessly live-tweeting from our WHA side events, or running 77km heart around Geneva to raise funds for children with congenital heart disease, he continuously inspired us.

Dom's heart left a mark on this world far greater than his far-too-short time here would suggest.

We are profoundly grateful for the time we had with him. While Dom will be deeply missed, his influence continues to inspire our team and the entire global surgery community.

Continuing Dom’s Legacy

In honor of Dom’s final wishes, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist his family with the significant costs of bringing him home from Canada to Belgium for burial. Any funds raised beyond these immediate expenses will support a Memorial Fund dedicated to continuing the global surgery efforts he devoted his life to.

If you would like to support Dom’s family and help ensure his visionary work continues, please consider making a contribution here:

Rest in peace, Dom.
