GSF to Announce New Commitment at Clinton Global Initiative 2025
With SURGfund support, a new initiative in Nakuru County, Kenya is building capacity for safe obstetric care—including caesarean section—for over 25,000 women annually. At CGI 2025 in New York, GSF will announce a new Commitment to Action to advance maternal surgical care globally.

Caesarean section is the world’s most common major surgical procedure—and when performed safely, it saves lives. Timely, respectful, and safe CS could help prevent over 100,000 maternal deaths every year.
Earlier this year, the Global Surgery Foundation (GSF), with support from SURGfund, launched a project in Nakuru County, Kenya. In partnership with AIC Kijabe Hospital and Jhpiego, the initiative strengthens safe obstetric care—including CS—for over 25,000 mothers and newborns each year.
The project focuses on training health workers, improving surgical safety protocols, and ensuring facility readiness in low-resource settings.
Clinton Global Initiative 2025: A Key Moment
The GSF is proud to be participating in the 20th Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, scheduled to take place September 24‑25, 2025, in New York City.
At CGI 2025, maternal health and surgical equity will be key agenda items. The GSF will be part of the conversation and will announce a new Commitment to Action, focused on expanding safe surgical care for women in low- and middle-income countries.
Looking Ahead
This milestone in Kenya and the GSF’s CGI commitment underline a broader vision: ensuring that every woman, no matter where she lives, has access to safe surgical care during childbirth.
We invite partners and supporters to join us in this journey - because when women thrive, families and communities flourish.
