Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka appointed to GSF Foundation Board

 

The Global Surgery Foundation (GSF) is very pleased to announce that Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has recently joined the GSF Foundation Board, adding her vast experience and strong leadership to the efforts of the Global Surgery community.

Dr. Mlambo-Ngcuka is the former UN Under-Secretary-General (USG) and Executive Director (ED) of UN Women  and the Former Deputy-President of South Africa. Learn more about Dr. Mlambo-Ngcuka here.

Since being launched at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2020, the Global Surgery Foundation (GSF) has continued to grow and expand. In mid-2021, the process of registration as a Swiss Foundation pursuant to articles 80 and seq. of the Swiss Civil Code has been completed. With this important milestone, the GSF is entering into the next phase of its organisational growth. The foundation governance has been carefully designed to create a highly effective organization with strong and equitable representation from clinicians and low- and middle-income countries. 

The governing bodies of the foundation include

  1. the Foundation Board;

  2. the High-Level Council (HLC);

  3. the Technical Advisory Council (TAC).

The Foundation Board is the highest level of governance for the GSF. The main role of the Foundation Board is to set and maintain the vision and mission and to ensure that activities, programs, and directions of the Foundation are in alignment. 

The GSF is honoured to have Dr. Mlambo-Ngcuka as part of the GSF leadership.
