Dr. Onyema Ajuebor

Onyema Ajuebor is a physician and global health expert, and currently serves as a Programmes Advisor to the Global Surgery Foundation in Geneva, Switzerland. He graduated from the University of Benin in Nigeria and holds a master’s degree in International Health Management, Economics and Policy (MIHMEP) from SDA Bocconi School of Management in Italy.
Onyema has practiced medicine in several fields, including psychiatry and pediatrics, before spending more than a decade at the World Health Organization. During his time at WHO, he worked in various capacities to improve the diagnosis of childhood tuberculosis, expand access to medicines for noncommunicable diseases, and strengthen health workforce capacities across countries.
Over the course of his career, Onyema has led the development of global technical policies, norms, and standards across multiple cross-cutting health programmes, including antimicrobial resistance, digital health, and climate change. His overarching interests lie in promoting human wellbeing through direct care interventions and supporting initiatives that enable countries to transform their health systems and surpass health-related Sustainable Development Goals targets.
