Prof. Vahit Özmen

Vahit Özmen, is Professor Emeritus of Surgery at İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Istanbul Florence Nightingale Breast Center, Türkiye. He currently serves as President of the Senologic International Society (2024–2026) and Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Breast Health.

Dr. Özmen has over three decades of experience in breast health, combining clinical care, research, and education. He has played a key role in advancing breast cancer control in Türkiye, including founding the Turkish Federation of Breast Diseases Society and establishing the national Breast Cancer Registry Program. His work has contributed to major policy changes, including lowering the age of mammographic screening.

Internationally, Dr. Özmen has been actively involved in global breast cancer initiatives, including the Breast Health Global Initiative, and has contributed to research, training, and capacity-building efforts across multiple countries. He has authored over 500 scientific publications and received numerous international recognitions for his contributions to breast health and surgery.
