SURGhub Surpasses 40,000 Users: Bridging the Global Gap in Surgical Care
What does it take to bridge the gap in global surgical care? For 40,000 frontline healthcare workers, it starts with accessible, world-class training.
SURGhub celebrates an important milestone as over 40,000 healthcare professionals worldwide join the UN-backed platform for surgical training.
Geneva, Switzerland — Globally, nearly one-third of all mortality is linked to surgically treatable conditions. An estimated 17 million people die annually because they lack access to safe surgical care. Bridging this massive gap requires more than just physical resources; it requires equipping the frontline workforce with accessible, world-class clinical knowledge.
That is the core mission of SURGhub. Today, our UN-backed digital learning platform has officially surpassed 40,000 registered users.
This rapid adoption highlights an urgent, unmet demand for surgical training that actually functions in demanding environments. By delivering high-quality, low-bandwidth training directly to mobile devices, SURGhub was designed to remove the traditional barriers of geography and expensive paywalls.
Today, the majority of our learners originate from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). From conflict zones to remote rural clinics, they are proving that location should never be a barrier to life-saving skills.
The true impact of this 40,000-user milestone, however, is best understood through the experiences of the practitioners applying this knowledge on the ground. Today, we are sharing the stories of two of our learners.
Learner Story #1
Healing More Than Just Wounds in Egypt
Surgical care requires navigating the profound human element of medicine. Dr. Sanderene Abdelnor, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Egypt, knows this intimately.
In her recent Impact Story, she recalls a difficult case involving a young child with acute burns. "The main challenge wasn't the wound itself, but the child's intense fear and distress," she shared. Seeking a better way to manage her young patient's psychological trauma alongside the physical injury, she turned to SURGhub. Her story is a powerful reminder that technical excellence must always go hand-in-hand with deep compassion.
Learner Story #2
Driving Surgical Excellence in Bangladesh
Across the globe, practitioners are using SURGhub to bridge the gap between their current resources and the global standards they aspire to. For practitioners like Dr. Sourov Das in Bangladesh, continuous learning is a vital lifeline to his community.
In his Impact Story, Dr. Das highlights the realities of surgical training in his region and how accessing high-quality, localized knowledge empowers him to elevate the standard of care in his operating room. His dedication exemplifies the core function of our platform: ensuring that vital training reaches the hands of those who need it most.
The Road to 100,000
SURGhub's sights are set on an even more ambitious goal: reaching 100,000 healthcare workers worldwide. We are accelerating this growth from multiple angles—from expanding our surgical course offerings and digital footprint to growing our global Ambassador Programme, which empowers local leaders to champion SURGhub in their own clinical networks.
Whether you are a perioperative nurse in Kenya, an OB/GYN in India, or a reconstructive surgeon in Egypt, your commitment to your patients is what drives this initiative forward. Thank you for utilizing SURGhub to elevate the standard of care worldwide.
