Dr. Sourov Das serves as a postgraduate trainee in General Surgery at Comilla Medical College Hospital. This busy public facility in Bangladesh serves a vast population, including rural patients who often face significant barriers to specialized care.

"We work in a setting where resources, equipment, and budgets are often limited," Dr. Das explains. Despite these constraints, his motivation remains rooted in a simple principle: every patient, regardless of their socioeconomic status, deserves the highest standard of medical care.

Dr. Sourov Das works at the high-volume Comilla Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh.

Every small decision in the operating theatre can directly affect a patient’s life

For a busy resident, finding time for professional development is a challenge. Dr. Das discovered SURGhub while searching for high-quality, free surgical resources to supplement his clinical training.

The impact of this digital learning became tangible during his placement in burn and plastic surgery. After completing the Acute and Essential Burn Care courses on SURGhub, Dr. Das was presented with a young girl suffering from hot water burns.

Following the SURGhub course, I was able to approach the case confidently

"Because I had already studied the principles of burn management through the course, I was able to approach the case confidently and follow the proper guidelines for treatment," he recalls. This case remains a benchmark in his career, illustrating how accessible digital knowledge translates directly into improved patient safety.

Dr. Das’s ultimate goal is to become a cardiac surgeon specializing in heart transplantation. He views the long learning curve of surgery as an opportunity to leverage modern tools for professional growth.

The world’s expertise is now as close as your phone

His advice for the next generation of surgeons is simple: the world’s expertise is now as close as your phone. By utilizing platforms like SURGhub, trainees can access international-level education without leaving their local hospitals.
