The Global Surgery Foundation is pleased to recommend the next session in the ACS Health Outreach Program for Equity in Global Surgery (H.O.P.E.) Expert Lecture Series. On Thursday, 17 September 2026, Dr. Tsegazeab Laeke will present “Neurotrauma Care in Low-Resource Settings: Building for the Future.”
Meet the Expert
Dr. Tsegazeab Laeke Teklemariam is a neurosurgeon from Ethiopia and a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA).
He is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Addis Ababa University and practises at Black Lion Specialised Hospital. He serves as a board member of the Canadian Network for International Surgery and the Injury Prevention Initiative for Africa, and previously served as President of the Society of Ethiopian Neurological Surgical Professionals.
His research, completed as part of his PhD at the University of Bergen, focused on neurotrauma care in Ethiopia.

Neurotrauma places a disproportionate burden on health systems in low-resource settings, where access to timely, high-quality care remains limited.
This lecture will examine the epidemiology and common patterns of neurotrauma, review evidence-based management strategies, and explore sustainable approaches to strengthening care — including workforce development, capacity building, innovation, and prevention.
